Wizkid Surpassed 6 Billion Streams On Spotify to Become First African Artist To Do That

Nigerian megastar singer and songwriter, Wizkid, has once again set a new record for African music as he surpasses 6 billion streams on Spotify as a lead artist.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner has achieved another giant feat, therefore extending his African record.

Wizkid has since been at the frontline of African music rise since 2015 when his hit single ‘Ojuelegba’ gained attention internationally after its release.

In 2016, he was featured by Drake on the hit song, ‘One Dance,’ which became the first song to cross the billion streams mark on Spotify, thereby promoting Wizkid to international success. Since appearing on the hit single, Wizkid has become one of the most commercial artists globally with his music reaching listeners in different parts of the world.

In 2020, he dropped his fourth album, ‘Made In Lagos,’ which delivered the hit record, ‘Essence,’ featuring Nigerian sensation, Tems, with a Justin Bieber-assisted remix.

‘Made In Lagos’ is the first Nigerian album to be certified RIAA Gold, and the hit single,‘Essence,’ has also recieved 3 platinum certifications.
